MIOS is a research group within the Department of Communication Studies at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (University of Antwerp, Belgium). Our 23 researchers are dedicated to the study of individuals' uses of media and ICT, as well as interpersonal relations within organisations and the broader society, to pursue evidence based communication strategies and policy. The research activities of MIOS can be linked to two communication levels, which comprise the central and complementary research strands: - The use of ICT (and other media) by individuals, and the associated risks and opportunities: This level focuses on research into the use of internet, mobile phones and games by children, young people and adults. - The strategic use of ICT (and other media) by organizations (companies, social-profit organizations, governments): At this level, research is conducted in areas such as (online) marketing and health communication.

School of Communications, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (UC) The WIP project in Chile is executed by a multi-disciplinary team belonging to the schools of Communications, Sociology, and Engineering from Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago (UC), one of the leading Latin American universities. The Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS), one of the local referents in the analysis of the digital economy, has been an active partner since the beginning of WIP in 2003. The annual WIP meeting was hosted by the UC School of Communications in Santiago in 2005. The WIP Chile team members are Dr Soledad Herrera (Sociology), Dr Marcos Sepulveda (Engineering), George Lever (CCS), and Aldo Myrick (CCS), led by Dr Sergio Godoy from the UC School of Communications. Since 2005, the Chilean team also executes a complementary study to WIP, the Business and Information Technology Project (BIT), which analyses the impact of IT in organisations and the economy. Funding for WIP in Chile has been provided by Fondecyt, the National Fund for Science and Technology.

The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague The department of sociology studies a wide range of topics but is predominantly engaged in basic research. Its primary research interests are in the areas of contemporary general sociological theory, current social problems and the methodology of social scientific research. Specialized branches of sociology pursued in the department's research include social deviation and criminology, historical consciousness, identity and the social dimension of Internet use. The department also devotes attention to sociologies of lifestyle, family, public opinion, globalization, risks, trust, information society and urban affairs. In the years 2005-2008, the Institute for Research on Children, Youth and Families at the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University (http://ivdmr.fss.muni.cz/) was responsible for the Czech part of the World Internet Project. Institute for Research on Children, Youth and Families is a professional research institute of the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University. The research focus is based on long-term interest in the topics of developmental, social and educational psychology, personal psychology and the psychology of media. The journal Cyberpsychology: Journal of Psychosocial Research on Cyberspace (http://www.cyberpsychology.eu) is published within the Faculty of Social Studies and is also the activity of the research Institute. Assoc. prof. David Smahel (http://www.muni.cz/fss/people/3068) was in charge of the project in 2005-2008 and is still collaborating with the current team at the Charles University.

Universidad de los Hemisferios (University of the Hemispheres) The Universidad de Los Hemisferios was born as an initiative of a group of scholars and Ecuadorian entrepreneurs, concerned about higher education in our country. Work to develop the educational project began in 1998, and had the support of many people both at home and at several universities in the world. In 1999 he was the entity promoting the university, Universitas Corporation, The Technical University of Loja granted the patronage and sponsorship to the new education project, and the Catholic University Santiago de Guayaquil was academic endorsement for the creation of the University. The institution received approval from the House of CONESUP prior to the Act establishing the same, culminating in the National Congress of the Republic of Ecuador, in May 2004. On May 31 of that year, this law was published in the Official Gazette. School of Communication The School of Communication at the University of the hemispheres supports his research at the Center for Research in Media and Public Opinion (CICOP). The CICOP has agreements with other research centers and networks of the following groups: Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (ALAIC), Academic Research Network of Communication (RAIC), Iberoamerican Association of Sociology of the Organization (AISO). Axes study The dynamics of the contemporary university research evolves from the collective work of teachers organized in research groups. These in turn, define the research agenda in which deepen, harmonized with the interests of impact and spread of knowledge in which colleges and universities generally want to intervene. The School of Communication at the Universidad de Los Hemisferios in keeping with disciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of design and social responsibility, should be involved in the communication processes of society, providing its members, the knowledge of the truth, as to the veracity information messages, transparency of information by organizations in general, the wisdom of entertainment content and fiction, aesthetics and honesty in the design of the advertising, particularly in the context of the common good, respect for the dignity of the human person, freedom of expression and the right to information, grimly compelling the exercise of professional communication. The communication research community in Latin America, consists mainly of university research groups are recognized by the national science and technology, and they interact according to the research with other groups, forming the well known networks of researchers, as ALAIC, RAIC, AISO, REALAIC, VAP, LAMMA, among others. About the Center for Research in Media and Public Opinion, CICOP What do you think, feel and perceived public opinion on issues of national and international public interest? It is one of the communicative possibilities of knowledge society that allows itself, understand its political dynamics, economic, social and cultural rights in general which underpin the exercise of the Research Center for Media and Public Opinion (CICOP), University of the hemispheres. Additionally, CICOP interest to study the impact of new information technologies in society, due to the many changes that have been generated not only in the habits of media consumption, but in the structures of culture.

Created in 2002 by the Breton Regional Council, and hosted at IMT Atlantique, M@rsouin is both an observatory of digital practices and a network of 15 research centres. M@rsouin is built on Social Science research centers workforces and aims at developing cooperation with firstly regional, but also national and European research centers, public institutions and firms. More precisely, it is expected to: • conduct studies and surveys to help better understanding of how digital practices of individuals and organization contribute to the transformation of society and economy; • foster research in Social Science on digital practices, • engage a prospective reflection on the Information Society, in order to assist the political institutions in the construction of public policies favoring the emergence of good practices and the access to these services for all the citizens. The WIK or Wissenschaftliches Institut für Infrastruktur und Kommunikationsdienste (Research Institute for Infrastructure and Communication Services) has been instrumental in the reform of the telecommunications sector inside and outside of Germany since its founding in 1982. WIK's main objective is to provide research support for and policy advice to regulatory authorities, in particular the German Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway (BNetzA), the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology, other National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) and the European Commission. In 2001, WIK established a fully owned subsidiary consulting arm, WIK-Consult GmbH, to provide high-quality objective studies to diverse set of clients in both the public and private sectors. WIK has 25 years of experience in research and consulting regarding the regulation of telecommunications and postal sectors and related areas. WIK's research and consulting activities comprise a broad range of issues regarding competition policy and regulation, market structure and business strategies, and innovation in telecommunications markets and related sectors.

Lisbon Internet and Networks International Research Programme(LINI) The Lisbon Internet and Networks International Research Programme is the outcome of the networking of four Portuguese research centres (CIES; ADETTI; MRC; OberCom) that have developed work in the areas of the "Network Society" in Portugal since 2003. LINI is a research centre for the multidisciplinary study of the Internet, networks and society, our mission is to foster academic research on the impact of the Internet and networks on society, informing policy and generating debate. LINI working and publication language is English. LINI also aims to give worldwide young researchers the ability to develop in Portugal expertise on the impact of the Internet and networks on society. This interdisciplinary network combines the work carried out by more than twenty researchers from ISCTE (University Institute of Lisbon) and OberCom, with collaboration from a large number of bodies and individuals in the funding, surveying and documentation tasks involved in the researches. The original research programme, started in CIES-ISCTE in 2003, and has since evolved to a joint cooperation and networking between the four institutions. Our research programme has been built around basic research, defined by the different participant institutions and their researchers. The research programme is made up of 4 research areas, all of which try to build extensive international comparative research based on international findings in each field: Networks and Mobility in Everyday life; Open Source Society and Free knowledge; Networked Communication; and The Network Enterprise and Innovation.
